Our Process
The materials used by Neptune Hot
Glass to create its glass sculptures
involve soda lime glass, dichroic
glass, various glass powders and
frit. The individual parts inside
these pieces are produced
separately for each sculpture.
Assembly takes place at about 1200
degrees F when various precious
metals are added as the interior of
each piece is sculpted. Once the
assembly process is complete, the
sculpture is encased in clear glass
that has been melted to 1200
degrees F in an electric furnace.
The piece is then shaped by hand
with graphite smoothing pads. The
Lagoons are cooled, then cut with
high speed diamond wheels, and
polished for many hours through
eight separate steps. This process
results in the mirrored images seen
deep within the pieces.
